COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Bayern Munich needed a late goal from Mathys Tel to continue its winning streak in Champions League group-stage games with a 2-1 win at Copenhagen on Tuesday. With the score at 1-1, youth and experience combined for the winning goal as 34-year-old Thomas Müller picked up a pass from Harry Kane, held off two defenders and then played in 18-year-old French forward Tel to blast the ball into the net in the 83rd minute. It was a rare moment of cohesive, creative team play from Bayern after the German champion spent most of the game frustrated by Copenhagen’s deep, compact defense and was vulnerable to the Danish team’s counterattacks.Tel’s goal extended Bayern’s remarkable run of wins in Champions League group-stage games to 15 since a draw with Atletico Madrid in 2020, a competition record. Bayern is also 36 games unbeaten in the group stage since 2017.Lukas Lerager opened the scoring for Copenhagen in the 56th but Jamal Musiala responded for Bayern 11 m...Thuram scores to help Inter beat Benfica 1-0 and go joint top of Champions League group

MILAN (AP) — Marcus Thuram made his mark in the Champions League to help Inter Milan get its campaign up-and-running with a 1-0 win over Benfica on Tuesday.Thuram scored in the 62nd minute for his first goal in the competition for the Nerazzurri. He has two goals and six assists in Serie A in a fantastic start at Inter for the 26-year-old player, who is the son of former Parma and Juventus defender Lilian Thuram. The goal came shortly after Inter’s top scorer Lautaro Martínez hit the woodwork twice in the space of six minutes. The result lifted Inter — last season’s runner-up — level on points with Group D leader Real Sociedad, which won 2-0 at Salzburg. Benfica was bottom with zero points from two matches. Both Inter Milan and Benfica have had strong starts to their domestic seasons but would have been expected to do better in their Champions League openers.Inter needed a last-minute equalizer from Martínez to snatch a 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad, while Benfica lost 2-0 at home to...Movie Review: Her voice is lower, but Joan Baez has songs to sing and secrets to tell in new doc

Bob Dylan called it her “heart-stopping soprano,” and it’s true that when Joan Baez unleashed that pure, angelic voice on the protest song “We Shall Overcome,” you could believe we would, indeed, overcome. The celebrated folk singer and activist was singing about civil rights, of course. But what we learn in the thoughtful, thorough and sometimes harrowingly intimate “Joan Baez: I Am a Noise” is that Baez was also seeking to overcome much on a personal scale: anxiety, depression, loneliness and, late in life, troubling repressed memories about her own father. If that sounds like a lot to cover in 113 minutes, it is — especially because the new documentary, directed by Maeve O’Boyle, Miri Navasky and Karen O’Connor, also recaps a 60-year performing career, with the singer telling her story through interviews and an incredible wealth of archival material. We see Baez entering for the very first time a storage unit filled to the ceiling by her late mother with photos, home films, audio r...Republicans hold closed door meeting after McCarthy ousted as Speaker: live coverage

DENVER (KDVR) — With over 100 years of history, this multi-million dollar home, known as the Greystone Estate, is back on the market. The structure didn't go unnoticed throughout the years. In fact, many Hollywood actors enjoyed this house, including a stay from Frank Sinatra. Built in 1914, the estate has been around through many of Colorado's historic events including the establishment of Rocky Mountain National Park in 1915, and the opening of ski resorts in Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs and Vail in 1969. A lockdown at a South Florida school was lifted after two armed juveniles were reported by their mother. Miami-Dade Police and Miami-Dade Schools Police arrived at the scene at Miami Central High School, located at 1781 NW 95th St., Tuesday afternoon. 7Skyforce hovered over the school where around 20 officers were seen with long guns as they searched for the juveniles. According to officials, the armed subjects are known juvenile delinquents who are wanted. The mother of the teens told 7News she called police and told officers her two sons were armed and on the loose. She was seen talking to officers at the school. Students at the school were dismissed before the lockdown but after school activities were being held. “Sketchy. Juveniles with guns don’t mix,” said Jonathan Puerto, a concerned parent. “It’s very frighting. I’m concerned, you know, ’cause I don’t know what’s going on. Only reason I’m here is because of the hel...Man who killed 2 women he met a day apart in north Florida bars in 1996 is put to death

WASHINGTON (AP) — Speaker Kevin McCarthy was voted out of the job Tuesday in an extraordinary showdown, a first in U.S. history that was forced by a contingent of hard-right conservatives and threw the House and its Republican leadership into chaos.McCarthy’s chief rival, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, forced the vote on the “motion to vacate,” drawing together more than a handful of conservative Republican critics of the speaker and many Democrats who say he is unworthy of leadership.Next steps are uncertain, but there is no obvious successor to lead the House Republican majority.Stillness fell as the presiding officer gaveled the vote closed, 216-210, saying the office of the speaker “is hereby declared vacant.”Moments later, a top McCarthy ally, Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., took the gavel and, according to House rules, was named speaker pro tempore, to serve in the office until a new speaker is chosen. The House then briskly recessed so lawmakers could meet and discuss the pat...Column: David Ross will be back for Year 5 as Chicago Cubs manager. It should be a make-or-break season.

To no one’s surprise, David Ross will return as Chicago Cubs manager for a fifth season in 2024.President Jed Hoyer lauded Ross again Tuesday during his postmortem at Wrigley Field, crediting the manager for getting the Cubs back into contention after falling 10 games under .500 in early June. There was never any indication Ross’ job was in jeopardy during the 7-15 free fall that ended the season, unlike San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler, who paid the price Friday for his team’s fade.Ross has a .480 winning percentage (262-284) in four years on the job with one postseason appearance in 2020, when the Cubs lost both games of a wild-card series to the Miami Marlins. Kapler had a .543 winning percentage (295-248) in four years with the Giants, including a 107-win season in 2021.Ross obviously is held to a different standard than his predecessor, Joe Maddon, who won a championship in 2016 in the second year of a five-year deal and didn’t receive an exte...Latest news
