A teenager missing for months was just found buried in her neighbor’s backyard. Nail polish helped identify her (CNN) — Orange fingernail polish helped investigators identify a missing 17-year-old whose remains were found Tuesday in the backyard of her neighbor’s home in Indiana, authorities said.Valerie Tindall’s family reported her missing on June 8, more than five months earlier, the Rush County Sheriff’s Department said in a Facebook post.Patrick Scott, 59, who lives behind the Tindalls, was arrested and charged with murder after admitting to killing her on June 7, according to a criminal homicide report. Scott also was charged with obstruction of justice and giving false information to a law enforcement officer, according to charging documents.The court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf on Thursday, records show. She was wearing a blue hoodie and blue pants at the time, according to detectives. No decision reached as to whether 13-year-old accused in mother’s murder will remain in adult jail A judge has not yet reached a decision as to whether Derek Rosa, a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering his mother, will remain at an adult jail facility or will be transferred to a juvenile detention center pending his trial. Rosa currently remains at Metro West Detention, an adult facility that opened a juvenile wing in October. He is one of 34 young inmates at the facility and is the youngest. The other 33 inmates are between 16 and 17 years old.During the hearing on Friday, Rosa’s attorneys made their case to have the teenager moved to a juvenile-only facility. His attorneys spend most of the afternoon asking questions about every aspect of his life while he was behind bars at the Metro West. Local researchers test high-tech barriers as new way to keep swimmers safe from sharks  With the recent uptick in shark encounters along the coast of Cape Cod, a new device could soon be used to keep swimmers safe. “Exclusion Barrier” is a network of black plastic pipes that are supposed to keep people and sharks separate. 7NEWS recently spoke with Dr. Craig O’Connell, a shark researcher with the O’Seas Conservation Foundation, who said any measure to minimize risk is one worth trying.“It is the sharks’ realm,” O’Connell said. “It is their environment and we do have to enter with caution.”O’Connell said a large, visual structure such as the Exclusion Barrier system “works very well on visual predators like the great white shark.” “As those sharks swim closer and closer to the barrier, the electromagnetic field gets stronger and stronger and it basically gives them a little bit of a shock and they swim away,” O’Connell said. The barriers were tested in Chatham this past summer.
