TOKYO (AP) — The U.N. nuclear chief is to visit Japan’s tsunami-wrecked nuclear power plant Wednesday after the agency affirmed the safety of a contentious plan to release treated radioactive water into the sea.On his way to the Fukushima Daiichi plant, a highlight of his four-day Japan visit, International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Mariano Grossi will join government and utility officials to hear the concerns of mayors and fishing association leaders and to assure them of the plan’s safety.The IAEA, in its final report released Tuesday, concluded the plan to release the wastewater — which would be significantly diluted but still have some radioactivity — meets international standards and its environmental and health impact would be negligible.But local fishing organizations have rejected the plan because they worry that their reputation will be damaged even if their catch isn’t contaminated. MURRIETA, Calif. (AP) — One person was killed and three others were injured when a single-engine plane crashed Tuesday in Southern California, authorities said. The Cessna 172 with four people aboard crashed shortly after taking off from French Valley Airport in Murrieta around 2:45 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said. Televised news footage showed the small plane upside down in a business parking lot. One person died at the scene about 85 miles (135 kilometers) southeast of downtown Los Angeles, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Three others were taken to hospitals, one with serious injuries, the fire department said on Twitter. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Peters man is in custody for allegedly striking a pedestrian with his car in Florissant and fleeing the scene.According to the Florissant Police Department, the crash happened Monday around 9:50 p.m. near the intersection of Howdershell Road and Keeven Lane.When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 69-year-old woman laying in the road. She died at the scene after first responders attempted life-saving measures. Authorities are investigating after a man was found dead after an apparent hit-and-run crash in San Bernardino County.The victim was only identified as a 24-year-old man by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.On June 30, deputies responded to Chamberlaine Way near the intersection of US Hwy 395 in Adelanto around 6:10 a.m.Arriving deputies found the victim lying on the road with injuries “consistent with being hit by a vehicle.”Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. (KRON) -- A Santa Rosa man was arrested Tuesday morning after his wife was killed at their apartment, the Santa Rosa Police Department said. The suspect was identified as Tunoa Meo, 51. Police were called at 11:50 a.m. for the report of a stabbing at an apartment on the 2400 block of McBride Lane. Police found Meo at the scene and took him into custody. Suspect wanted for stabbing at Levi’s Stadium soccer game The victim was inside the apartment with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital where she later died, SRPD said. An SRPD investigation revealed that Meo and the victim got into an argument that turned physical and ended with Meo stabbing his wife, according to police. Meo was booked into Sonoma County Jail on a count of murder. The victim's name will be revealed after her family is notified.
